Street Fighter Earns $4 Million in Thursday Previews Ahead of Opening Weekend

Meanwhile, A24’s documentary You Can See Everything collected $1.75 million in previews and is expected to open with $7 million to $8 million.

LOS ANGELES: Street Fighter has earned $4 million from Thursday previews, setting up a competitive opening weekend for Paramount and Legendary’s new adaptation of the popular fighting video game franchise.

According to industry projections, the action film is expected to collect between $25 million and $35 million during its opening weekend. Its preview earnings position it among the major new releases competing for cinema audiences.

Star-Studded Cast Leads Street Fighter Adaptation

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter features Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Jason Momoa and 50 Cent. The cast portrays fighters who enter a high-stakes tournament, drawing on the colourful characters and combat-focused world of the long-running video game series.

Legendary and video game developer Capcom co-financed the production, which reportedly cost $82 million. The release also marks the first film distributed under Paramount’s global distribution agreement with Legendary.

The opening weekend will offer an early indication of whether the adaptation can attract both established fans of the games and moviegoers unfamiliar with the franchise. Its box office performance will also help establish its position among this weekend’s releases.

Other Films Compete at the Box Office

Several other films are entering cinemas this weekend, including Whalefall, which earned $900,000 in Thursday previews.

Directed by Brian Duffield and starring Austin Abrams, the thriller follows a scuba diver who becomes trapped inside a giant sperm whale. The film is projected to earn between $10 million and $12 million during its opening weekend.

Meanwhile, A24’s documentary You Can See Everything collected $1.75 million in previews and is expected to open with $7 million to $8 million.

Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the documentary centres on former Theranos chief executive Elizabeth Holmes and reportedly features footage captured through unusually extensive access to her life.

The Jane Austen adaptation Sense and Sensibility, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed Miles, is also making its theatrical debut this weekend.

Opening Weekend to Determine Street Fighter’s Momentum

For Street Fighter, the final opening weekend total will determine whether its Thursday preview earnings translate into a strong theatrical debut.

The film’s performance will be closely watched as studios assess audience interest in video game adaptations and the latest releases competing for box office revenue.
