LAHORE: Azan Ahmed has been appointed captain of the Pakistan U-17 squad for the upcoming bilateral home series against Sri Lanka, which will be played in Multan next month.

The series will feature one three-day match and five one-day games, with all six matches scheduled at the Multan Cricket Stadium from October 9 to 24.

Sri Lanka’s U-17 squad is scheduled to arrive in Multan on October 5.

Azan Ahmed, a leg-spinner, represented Rawalpindi in the National U-17 Cup earlier this year and played a key role in his team’s successful campaign.

He claimed 36 wickets in eight two-day matches during the tournament, with his best innings figures being 4-28. Azan also captained Rawalpindi to the title after they defeated Abbottabad by 125 runs in the final at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad from May 11 to 13.

Following the National U-17 Cup, 48 players were invited to the U-17 Skills Development Camp in Faisalabad, which began on July 30.

A total of 30 players were shortlisted for the second phase of the camp, after which the final squad for the Sri Lanka series was selected.
