Maheen Khan, Deepak Perwani, Faraz Manan among veteran designers who presented their visions for the national carrier’s future uniforms.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has taken another step towards redesigning its crew uniforms, bringing together 10 of Pakistan’s leading fashion designers for a special showcase in Islamabad.

The PIA New Uniform Design Showcase 2026 featured a wide range of interpretations of what the national airline’s future uniforms could look like.

The event brought together some of the biggest names in Pakistan’s fashion industry, including Maheen Khan, Deepak and Fahad, Generation, Ismail Farid, Munib Nawaz, Deepak Perwani, Faraz Manan, Amir Adnan, HSY and Nomi Ansari.

PIA later shared footage from the showcase on its social media platforms, giving the public a glimpse of the designs being considered for the airline’s next uniform.

Leading Fashion Figures Join the Jury

The participating designers presented their collections before a panel comprising prominent figures from Pakistan’s fashion and aviation industries.

The jury included Shamoon Sultan, founder and CEO of Khaadi; renowned couturier Nilofer Shahid; fashion and beauty expert Nabila; Hina Tayyaba Khalil, vice-chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design; and Naseem Tehrani, a PIA aviation veteran with 33 years of service.

The showcase was produced by Catwalk Productions under the direction of fashion industry pioneer Frieha Altaf, while journalist and television presenter Sidra Iqbal hosted the event.

A New Look After a Decade

PIA’s current uniform was introduced in 2016, following a previous designer showcase. The existing designs, created by Nomi Ansari and Sania Maskatiya, feature green, navy and maroon as their dominant colours.

After a decade of use, the latest initiative aims to develop a new visual identity for PIA’s cabin and flight crew.

Frieha Altaf said the airline’s uniform has traditionally represented Pakistan’s national identity when PIA aircraft travel internationally. According to her, the latest showcase seeks to combine that heritage with contemporary design and the practical requirements of modern aviation.

What the Designers Presented

Each designer brought a different interpretation of the PIA identity, with forest green, navy, beige, turquoise, white and grey among the dominant colours.

Amir Adnan

Amir Adnan presented uniforms in deep forest green and soft grey-blue. Men’s designs included tailored jackets, trousers and patterned ties, while women’s outfits featured fitted waistcoats, matching trousers, scarves and caps.

Deepak Perwani

Deepak Perwani opted for a classic and formal approach. His men’s collection included forest green and navy two-piece suits with subtle red detailing.

The women’s designs featured forest green jackets and trousers, complemented by patterned silk scarves and burgundy berets.

Faraz Manan

Faraz Manan’s collection was dominated by deep forest green, while one of the standout designs was a light-grey flight suit featuring white chest pockets.

Generation

Generation presented women’s uniforms in deep forest green, incorporating soft turquoise accents for a modern contrast.

HSY

HSY used a combination of deep navy, forest green and light grey. One of the most distinctive designs was a navy double-breasted pilot’s uniform paired with a peaked cap.

Ismail Farid

Ismail Farid focused primarily on men’s uniforms, using white and light-blue shirts with khaki, olive green and beige trousers.

The designs were completed with dark sunglasses and leather footwear, giving the collection a polished aviation-inspired appearance.

Maheen Khan with Deepak and Fahad

Maheen Khan collaborated with Deepak and Fahad on a collection featuring forest green, beige and teal.

Khan later described the project as an honour and said the collection represented her vision for the future appearance of PIA’s crew.

Munib Nawaz

Munib Nawaz presented darker shades of green, with men’s outfits featuring tailored jackets and long coats with mandarin collars and gold buttons.

Women’s designs included fitted blazers with subtle brown elements.

Nomi Ansari

Nomi Ansari used forest green, beige and white across his collection.

Women’s outfits included tailored blazers, coats and trouser suits paired with turquoise patterned scarves and matching caps. Turquoise piping and gold buttons provided additional detailing.

Men’s designs included forest green and beige suits, a mandarin-collar tunic and a white pilot’s shirt with a striped tie.

Winning Design to Be Introduced Across PIA Fleet

Following the runway presentations and jury deliberations, businessman Arif Habib participated in the closing ceremony, presenting miniature PIA aircraft models to the participating designers and members of the jury.

The final scores will determine the winning collection.

The selected design is expected to be produced and eventually introduced across PIA’s fleet, giving the national carrier a new uniform after a decade.

The competition therefore represents more than a fashion showcase. The winning design will become part of PIA’s visual identity and shape how the airline’s crew represent Pakistan to passengers around the world.
