GUJAR KHAN: The body of a third child was recovered from a canal on Saturday, four days after three siblings were allegedly thrown into the water in the Lelhri Bridge incident.

District Emergency Officer Mirpur Sardar Najam Sadozai confirmed that the body of Umar Zeeshan was recovered during the ongoing search operation in the Kharri Sharif area near Jhelum.

The bodies of Umar’s two sisters, Noor Fatima and Fajar Zeshan, had been recovered on Thursday, according to the emergency officer.

The three children were allegedly thrown into the canal by their father, Zeeshan, last Tuesday. Police arrested him after the incident, and SP Investigations Jhelum Sikandar said the suspect confessed to the alleged crime.

Zeeshan, a resident of Dina tehsil, reportedly had strained relations with his wife.

According to Sardar Najam Sadozai, the strong water flow in the canal made the search operation difficult.

Early Saturday morning, the turbines of a nearby hydropower project reportedly tripped for some time. During the interruption, Umar’s body surfaced in the water and was subsequently recovered by rescue teams.

The recovery of the third child brings the four-day search operation to an end, while police investigations into the incident are continuing.
