Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh has welcomed Pakistan Railways’ decision to hand over the commercial management of its Cargo Express service to the private sector, urging authorities to include Faisalabad in the proposed route.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Sheikh said Faisalabad’s inclusion would help meet the city’s growing import and export requirements and provide businesses with access to a faster and more efficient rail-based freight service.

According to the proposed arrangement, Cargo Express trains 505 Up and 506 Down would operate between Karachi and Rawalpindi/Peshawar. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for October 15, while the deadline for submitting prequalification applications is October 22.

Welcoming the initiative, the FCCI president said Faisalabad is a major industrial and export-oriented centre and should therefore be incorporated into the Cargo Express network.

He said direct access to the proposed freight service would enable local exporters and importers to transport goods more efficiently while supporting the city’s expanding commercial and industrial activities.

Sheikh urged Pakistan Railways to consider Faisalabad while finalising the Cargo Express route, saying the move would facilitate the business community and strengthen rail-based freight transportation for the city’s trade and industry.
