Rwanda recorded the biggest improvement in the latest ranking update, climbing nine places to 119th.

LONDON: Portugal climbed two places to fifth in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings released on Wednesday, becoming the only team to move within the top 10.

Portugal’s rise followed a perfect international window in which they won all four of their UEFA Nations League matches, defeating Norway twice and Wales and Denmark once each.

Spain Extends Lead at Top

Spain retained the top position and increased its advantage after winning all four of its Nations League matches during the latest international window.

The reigning world champions defeated England 3-2 and also recorded victories over Croatia twice and the Czech Republic.

Argentina remained second after defeating Benin 3-0 on Tuesday in Lionel Messi’s final international appearance for the country.

France and England maintained third and fourth positions respectively.

Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico completed the remainder of the top 10 alongside Portugal.

Brazil and Morocco Drop One Place

Brazil and Morocco were the only other teams to change positions inside the top 10.

Both sides slipped one place after drawing friendly matches during the latest international window.

The changes allowed Portugal to move into fifth position following their unbeaten Nations League campaign.

United States Remain 16th

The United States retained 16th place despite enjoying a perfect international window.

The US team won all four of its matches, defeating Peru 4-1, Chile 4-2, Mexico 3-0 and Canada 1-0.

The results, however, were not enough to change their position in the latest rankings.

Rwanda Make Biggest Rise

Rwanda recorded the biggest improvement in the latest ranking update, climbing nine places to 119th.

Their rise was helped by a 2-1 victory over Cape Verde in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on September 29.

Sierra Leone suffered the biggest decline, falling eight places to 130th after losing both of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

The FIFA World Rankings will next be updated on November 18.
