RJ Mitte’s Mother Speaks Out About Actor’s Death at 34
His family said he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and was president of The Mitte Foundation.
BROWNSVILLE: Dyna Mitte, the mother of Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte, has spoken publicly about the loss of her son, describing how she discovered him dead at his home in Brownsville, Texas.
Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the hit television series, died on October 12 at the age of 34. His representative confirmed that he died by suicide, although the Brownsville Police Department had previously said the circumstances of his death remained under investigation.
In an interview with NBC News published on October 15, Dyna recalled calling her son at around 11am. She said he often slept until noon, so his failure to answer initially did not cause immediate concern. She later picked up lunch and went to his home, where she found him.
Mother Reflects on Final Days
Dyna said she believed her son’s death was a spontaneous decision and that he had not left a note. She also recalled that a close friend had told her Mitte had been deeply hurt by certain issues.
According to his mother, she had encouraged him to seek therapy during the three months before his death. However, he reassured her that he was managing his difficulties.
Looking back, Dyna expressed regret that she had not pushed harder for him to seek professional support. She said she decided to share her experience publicly in the hope that it might help other families facing similar circumstances.
