Katie Boulter Cruises Into Japan Open Quarter-Finals
“One of the biggest things for me is staying patient in the wind,” Boulter said.
British tennis player Katie Boulter reached the quarter-finals of the Japan Open after defeating Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in less than an hour in Osaka.
The British number two secured a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory and will face either Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic or American Kayla Day in the next round.
Boulter saved a break point in the opening game before taking control at 2-2 in the first set. She then won nine consecutive games before Golubic managed to claim the penultimate game of the match.
The 30-year-old lost her British number one ranking to Sonny Kartal on Monday but is on course to reclaim the position following her strong performance in Japan.
Boulter Praises Performance in Difficult Conditions
The eighth seed said she was pleased with her performance, particularly her ability to remain patient despite strong winds affecting play.
“One of the biggest things for me is staying patient in the wind,” Boulter said.
“Sometimes I can get a little frustrated, and I’m very pleased that I didn’t allow that to affect me today. I think I ended up playing some really good tennis in the second set. I’m really pleased with the performance.”
Boulter will now look to maintain her momentum as she targets a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
