Pakistan Beat Sri Lanka by 82 Runs to Seal T20I Series in Rawalpindi

Sadaqat and Farhan led the batting charge with an aggressive partnership that put Pakistan firmly in control.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series after defeating Sri Lanka by 82 runs in the second match at Pindi Stadium on Sunday.

Opener Maaz Sadaqat narrowly missed a century with a brilliant 96, while captain Sahibzada Farhan scored 73 to power Pakistan to a record total of 215-3 in 20 overs.

Young fast bowler Imran Randhawa then delivered a superb performance, taking three wickets for just 11 runs in four overs as Sri Lanka finished at 133-7.

The victory marked Pakistan’s biggest winning margin against Sri Lanka in T20 internationals and gave the hosts an unassailable series lead ahead of Tuesday’s final match.

Maaz Sadaqat, Sahibzada Farhan Power Pakistan to Record Total

Pakistan’s total of 215-3 was the highest ever recorded by the team at Pindi Stadium, surpassing its previous best of 195-5 against Zimbabwe on November 23, 2025.

Sadaqat and Farhan led the batting charge with an aggressive partnership that put Pakistan firmly in control.

After opening the innings with Fakhar Zaman, Farhan helped Pakistan make a flying start, sharing 55 runs off 35 balls for the first wicket.

Fakhar scored 22 off 17 deliveries, hitting four boundaries before falling to off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana.

Farhan was dropped on 12 after miscuing a shot, but he made the most of the reprieve to register his second consecutive half-century of the series.

The Pakistan captain reached his fifty off 31 balls and eventually scored 73 from 44 deliveries, striking five sixes and four fours.

He then combined with Sadaqat for an 88-run partnership off 48 balls for the second wicket, accelerating Pakistan’s scoring rate.

Sadaqat Misses Century by Four Runs

Sadaqat continued his impressive form with an explosive innings of 96 off 51 balls, featuring seven sixes and six fours.

The young batter reached his second consecutive half-century of the series off just 30 deliveries and repeatedly attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers.

He particularly targeted Theekshana, smashing three sixes in an over that yielded 22 runs.

Sadaqat later joined Hasan Nawaz for a rapid 72-run partnership for the third wicket, taking Pakistan towards a formidable total.

He was dismissed off the final delivery of the innings while attempting a big shot to complete his century, leaving the field four runs short of the milestone.

Hasan remained unbeaten on 19 off nine balls, including a six and a four.

Pakistan scored 46 runs in the powerplay and reached 90-1 at the halfway stage. The hosts accelerated to 145-2 after 15 overs before adding another 70 runs in the final five overs.

Theekshana was Sri Lanka’s most expensive bowler, conceding 55 runs in four overs while taking one wicket. Eshan Malinga and Dasun Shanaka also claimed a wicket each.

Imran Randhawa Destroys Sri Lanka’s Top Order

Chasing 216 for victory, Sri Lanka struggled to build momentum as Pakistan’s bowlers struck at regular intervals.

Salman Mirza provided the early breakthrough by dismissing in-form opener Lahiru Udara for five.

Randhawa then dismantled the visitors’ top order, removing Sineth Jayawardena for 22, Kusal Mendis for nine and Sahan Arachchige for a duck in quick succession.

His spell left Sri Lanka struggling to recover from the early setbacks.

Saim Ayub dismissed Dasun Shanaka for nine before Shadab Khan removed Kamindu Mendis, who had scored 23, leaving the visitors reeling at 74-6.

Chamindu Wickramasinghe offered some resistance with 29 off 24 deliveries but was dismissed by Salman Mirza.

Maheesh Theekshana remained unbeaten on 32, including four boundaries, as Sri Lanka finished on 133-7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Randhawa ended with outstanding figures of 3-11, while Salman supported him with two wickets for 28 runs.

The performance was particularly notable for Randhawa, who recently made his Test debut against England.

Pakistan Eye Series Whitewash in Final T20I

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Salman Mirza in place of Razaullah, who had made his T20I debut in the opening match at the same venue.

Sri Lanka made two changes to their lineup but were unable to contain Pakistan’s powerful batting display or recover from the early damage caused by the hosts’ bowling attack.

With the series already secured, Pakistan will look to complete a clean sweep in the third and final T20I, scheduled for Tuesday at Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.
