LHC directed Rizwan to respond to a show-cause notice and appear before the NCCIA in person.

LAHORE: A Pakistani court has dismissed a petition filed by national cricket team wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan against summons issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The court directed Rizwan to respond to a show-cause notice and appear before the agency in person.

Rizwan had approached the Lahore High Court after being summoned by the NCCIA in connection with matters related to the Pakistan cricket team’s recent tour of England.

He appeared at the agency’s Lahore office last week, where he was questioned about issues linked to the tour. He later filed a petition challenging the nature of the investigation and the agency’s jurisdiction.

During the hearing, Rizwan’s lawyer, Umair Qazi, argued that the NCCIA summons were unlawful.

The lawyer said that good and poor performances are part of sport and argued that the agency did not have legal authority to reject Rizwan’s written response and issue fresh summons.

According to Qazi, Rizwan had submitted a written response to the allegations through his lawyer, but the agency rejected the response and summoned him again.

The lawyer asked the court to declare the notices void.

Rizwan did not appear before the court and was represented by his lawyer during the hearing.

Following the court’s decision, Rizwan will be required to respond to the show-cause notice and appear before the NCCIA in person.
