Trump Advisers Reportedly Prefer Israeli Government Without Netanyahu

He has also indicated that Israel may need to develop an alternative digital economy to navigate the potential impact of growing international sanctions.

Several senior advisers to US President Donald Trump believe an Israeli government without Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be easier for Washington to work with on regional priorities, despite Trump’s public endorsement of the Israeli leader ahead of Tuesday’s election, Axios reported.

According to the report, dissatisfaction with Netanyahu has grown within Trump’s inner circle over the past six months, particularly following the war with Iran and disagreements over the broader US agenda in the Middle East.

Vice President JD Vance is among the senior officials reportedly disillusioned with Netanyahu. Concerns have emerged over the Israeli prime minister’s assessments to the White House before the war with Iran, which some officials reportedly believe were mistaken.

Vance declined to endorse Netanyahu when asked about the election, saying that Trump’s position was what mattered.

US Officials Raise Concerns Over Israeli Policies

The report said senior US officials have also expressed concerns about Israeli policies in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon and the occupied West Bank.

Some advisers are reportedly frustrated with Netanyahu’s reluctance to advance Trump’s Gaza peace plan and curb attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have expressed frustration over delays in implementing the Gaza plan, while envoy Tom Barrack has raised concerns about Israeli military operations in Syria.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s team reportedly believes Israel could do more to strengthen Lebanon’s government.

Despite these disagreements, Trump endorsed Netanyahu on Sunday, suggesting that his defeat could have implications for US-Israel relations.

Some Trump advisers reportedly believe a new Israeli government without Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partners could give Washington greater flexibility to pursue diplomatic agreements across the region.

Netanyahu Warns of Possible US Aid Cuts and Sanctions

Netanyahu has said Israel must prepare for the eventual end of US military assistance worth tens of billions of dollars, describing the prospect as “only a matter of time.”

He has also indicated that Israel may need to develop an alternative digital economy to navigate the potential impact of growing international sanctions.

Speaking to Channel 10 days before the closely contested election, Netanyahu said he had ordered preparations for possible economic and banking sanctions, including an examination of alternative financial technologies.

Netanyahu is also facing ongoing corruption proceedings and an International Criminal Court arrest warrant, adding to the political and diplomatic challenges surrounding his leadership.
