Houthis Target Aden Airport, Port and Coast Guard Facilities With Missiles

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s government against the Houthis since 2015.

ADEN: Yemen’s internationally recognised government has accused the Houthi militia of targeting Aden International Airport, a port in the city’s al-Tawahi district and two coast guard facilities with ballistic missiles.

The information ministry reported renewed missile attacks on the airport and port in a post on X on Saturday but did not provide details about casualties or damage.

The interior ministry separately said two ballistic missiles targeted the coast guard headquarters at the ministry’s compound, while a third struck a coast guard building in al-Tawahi.

Houthis Claim Attacks on Military Targets

The Houthi militia claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying it had targeted a naval base and a military camp overseen by Saudi forces.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had targeted Saudi troops at Al-Nasr camp and the naval base in Aden.

However, his statement did not mention Aden International Airport or specify the weapons used.

The Yemeni interior ministry said the latest strikes followed previous attacks on civilian and vital infrastructure in Aden, including repeated ballistic missile and drone attacks on the international airport.

It warned that attacks on public infrastructure threatened the city’s security and stability, endangered civilians and disrupted institutions responsible for security and public services.

Regional Tensions Escalate

The Saudi-led coalition said earlier that it had intercepted two missiles targeting the western Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu before explosions were reported in Aden.

Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s internationally recognised government have faced repeated attacks by the Houthi militia, which has also targeted Saudi energy and civilian facilities.

The Yemeni government and its allies control Aden and large parts of the country’s southern and eastern provinces, while the Houthis control the capital, Sanaa, and much of northern and western Yemen.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s government against the Houthis since 2015.

The latest escalation comes amid renewed fighting between government forces and the Houthi militia following the collapse of a ceasefire that had been in place since 2022.
